Europcar South Africa joins SARU family of sponsors
21 May 2013

Europcar South Africa has joined the South African Rugby Union (SARU) sponsors’ family as the official car rental supplier to SARU, its national squads and national teams, it was announced on Tuesday.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to be associated with the Springboks,” said Dawn Nathan-Jones, CEO of Europcar SA.

“We aim to keep our brand continually evolving and this is a natural progression from our sponsorship of the HSBC Sevens World Series tournament.

“We’re also a Proudly South African company and we see the Springboks as the pinnacle of South African sport. The Springboks represent everything South African and creates a spirit that brings our country together.”

The good fit between Europcar and SARU goes beyond happy coincidences, such as sharing green as a core corporate colour, or the mutual benefits of Europcar enabling transport logistics wherever needed for SARU, through 120 locations throughout Southern Africa.

Jurie Roux, CEO of SARU, said it was exciting to extend the national governing body’s relationship with Europcar.

“We’ve been working together with Europcar on the Sevens in Port Elizabeth for a while now and their passion for the game of rugby has always been evident,” said Roux.

“To see them getting involved on a broader spectrum is fantastic and I’m very happy to see Europcar join our group of very dedicated Official Suppliers.”

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Europcar because in our different fields, SARU and Europcar have similar mindsets and strategies. Like them, we’re continually evolving our brand and our game.

“Their passion for delivering effortless service can allow us to remain focused on our jobs without distractions – in the zone. It’s a winning combination.”

The new partnership will be in action at June’s Castle Lager Incoming Series, when the Springboks host Italy, Samoa and Scotland in a unique quadrangular tournament in Durban, Nelspruit and Pretoria.

The Emergency Medical assistance, provided by Europ Assistance, gives customers access to an independent national network of about 5 000 emergency medical personnel ready to respond to a call.

“Customer service lies at the core of Europcar’s business and safety is a key focus area for us. We want our customers to feel safe, not only when renting our cars but also should an accident occur.  Our customers will have peace of mind knowing that they will be looked after in any eventuality,” says Dawn Nathan-Jones, CEO of Europcar South Africa.

At just R20 a day, the cover includes the following benefits:
24-hour emergency advice and assistance call centre.
Immediate dispatch of emergency medical services in order to provide life-saving assistance.

Title sponsor of Tour de France for second year

As the title sponsor of the pro team, Europcar has made a commitment to both the values of sport and the passion of competition. Team Europcar, sponsored by Europcar  International, will be fielding the professional team at the Tour de France for the second year, which runs from 30 June to 22 July.

Thomas Voeckler – the French rider who famously wore the yellow jersey for 10 stages during last year’s tour - and Pierre Rolland will lead Team Europcar’s nine-man squad for the 99th Tour de France, which will cover a distance of 3, 497 over 20 stages. The Tour gets underway with a prologue in the Belgian city of Liege this Saturday.

“Cycling was chosen for its wide appeal to the public, its international dimension and the close relationship it forges between riders and supporters. There is a strong synergy between cycling’s values of teamwork and discipline, strengthened by individual performance, and our core business of delivering as a team to ensure excellent customer service,” says Dawn Nathan-Jones, CEO of Europcar South Africa.

Locally, Europcar is also heavily entrenched with a selection of cycling events and is committed to lending its support and sponsorship to this popular and growing sporting discipline.  Europcar has formed a Europcar SA pro team, made up of eight young riders between the ages of 22 and 26, who are selected for the team based on their experience, race wins and future potential in elite races.  Europcar’s Operations Director, George Corbett, a cycling enthusiast and a Director of Cycling South Africa provides integral input to Europcar’s local cycling strategy.

“The reason we started the team was to get Europcar representation on the road, and the international team sparked a keen interest to start a local team. We also wanted to give development riders a springboard to get into the elite teams,” says Corbett.
For local cycling enthusiasts, Europcar has also started a cycling club which provides cyclists with the opportunity to be part of a formal club, a joining fee covers cyclists’ annual provincial and Cycling South Africa membership fees, attending training rides with Team Europcar South Africa and car rental deals.

“We believe that having this local team in Europcar’s colours is key to the brand’s global strategy as a leading car rental company and we look forward to their race successes. For now though, we will be watching and supporting our international professionals at the Tour de France.” concludes Dawn Nathan-Jones.
